Barry Farrar's jazz roots run deep and he was raised in a musical family. His father, Barry Farrar Sr., was a celebrated sax player and was very active in the fertile SD jazz scene during the 50s and 60s. Barry was exposed to great jazz as a child and started playing trumpet early on and switched to drums in 6th grade. Barry had a keen interest in Jazz and studied the history of this great music and ended up joining the team at JAZZ 88.3 in 1980. His love for Miles, Coltrane, Art Blakey and the legendary jazz players keeps him excited about the music. Barry plays drums in Lower Left and was a charter member of the Jazz88 All-Stars. Barry leads The Derringers (Blues group) and The Blue Rockit band as well as doing lots of freelance work. On Jazz88 his programs (The Jazz Ritual, Round Midnight, and Percussive Profiles) air weekly on Jazz 88.3.
